Coronavirus has become a nightmare for everyone across the world. Known as COVID-19, this virus was first discovered in Wuhan, China. But, now it has become a world pandemic.
As the virus is extremely contagious, the governments of most countries in the world have advised people to stay at their home and to keep a social distance. The United States isn’t different from them.
Most people in the US are in-home quarantine, and some of them are working from home. However, not everyone knows how to maintain the home quarantine properly.
Continue reading to get a proper guideline about what to do while you’re home quarantined due to this pandemic coronavirus.
1. Learn The Difference Between Quarantine and Isolation
Most of you are confusing quarantine with isolation. While they sound quite similar, they are not.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), isolation is for those who are sick with a contagious disease such as coronavirus. They need to stay separate as they can be a threat to their family and friends.
On the other hand, quarantine is for those people who have been exposed to a contagious, deadly virus and has a high possibility of falling sick. It separates and restricts the movements of these people for a certain period to see if they get sick.
Not all people who are self-quarantined are exposed to the disease, but staying at home will reduce the chance of getting sick and spread the virus to others.
2. Should You Wear a Mask at Home?
Unless you’re already sick, you probably need not wear a mask. According to the CDC, if you don’t show any symptoms of the virus, wearing a mask isn’t useful or necessary for you.
Then, who should wear a mask? People are living in a region experiencing an outbreak, doctor, or healthcare workers who are treating contagious patients, as well as those who are experiencing flu-like symptoms.
So, if you’re not sick and self-quarantined yourself due to the COVID-19 outbreak, you don’t need to wear a mask at home.
3. Stocking Up Food
You must be wondering exactly how much food you should buy right now. Experts suggest that you should stock up food for at least two weeks.
Sometimes, it’s challenging to find the necessary foods in the nearest grocery shops due to the lack of required supplies. It’s people start panic buying during this pandemic, creating a shortage of foods and other essential products in the market.
However, there are some online retailers like Amazon and Instacart, through which you can order your necessary items and get home delivery. And, do not start panic buying and stock up foods for a year as it may cause problems for other people.
4. First Aid Kits
You or your family members may get sick while on quarantine. It’s highly recommended that you don’t rush towards doctors or hospitals for minor sickness or injuries.
It’s because the hospitals may have some COVID-19 positive patients, and there’s a high chance that you will be affected by the virus while you’re there.
To handle minor injuries and sickness at home, always keep a first-aid kit at your home. This kit must contain gauges, ban-aid, scissors, some common drugs, etc. Keep that kit in a safe place and away from children.
5. Other Home Essentials
Apart from food, you will need some other things during the quarantine period. You need to make a list of these essential items and start shopping for two weeks.
Think about what you may need during this period. Toilet papers, tissues, soaps, handwashes, female hygiene products are some of the items that you may need to stock without causing trouble to others.
Also, if you have babies in your house, you need to buy enough diapers as well. Think about what sort of items you need and purchase accordingly.
6. Prepare Your Pets
If you’re in quarantine and healthy, then spending time with your pet can be a great idea to reduce boredom. However, if you’re diagnosed with the disease, it’s recommended that you limit your contact with the pets.
However, your pets need their essentials just like you. While doing shopping for quarantine, don’t forget to buy food and other things for them. Always wash your hand before and after touching them and clean their food and water bowl regularly.
